4 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour will allow you to discover the grandeur of Morocco’s south, such as the magnificent high Atlas mountains with amazing vistas and ethnic Berber communities.
Your 4-day Morocco desert tour from Marrakech will take you to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. A number of films were shot in this spectacular location, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz, etc.
We will continue to Ouarzazate to see the Oscar Atlas Film Studio, Morocco’s largest film studio, and Taourirt Kasbah. After that, our 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fes will take us through Skoura’s palm grove, Rose Valley, known for its yearly rose festival and cosmetic products, the green Dades Valley, and the fascinating Todra Gorge, a popular rock climbing location.
In the end, we’ll reach our most-awaited vacation spot: the spectacular Merzouga-Erg Chebbi desert, where we’ll ride camels into the setting sun and spend the night in a traditional Berber tent. The next day, we’ll head to Fes, but not before stopping to take in the breathtaking scenery en route. We’ll stop in Ziz Valley, the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Cedar Forest of Azrou, Ifrane, and finally Fes.
After breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your hotel or riad at 8:30 a.m. to begin our Marrakech to Fes desert tour via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260 m).
While enjoying spectacular views of the Atlas Mountains and authentic small Berber villages along the way, with photo stops, continue to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou (fortified village), the famous Kasbah declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. Many films have been shot in this spectacular location, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz, etc.
After lunch, our 4-day Morocco desert tour continues to Ouarzazate, where we will explore Oscar Atlas Film Studios, Morocco’s largest film studio, and Taourirt Kasbah, another historic site.
After that, we will pass through Skoura’s magnificent palm grove, Rose Valley, known for its yearly rose festival and cosmetic products in the month of May, and the Valley of Thousand Kasbahs, where you will see so many ancient adobe kasbahs. We will arrive in Dades Valley in the afternoon, have dinner, and spend the night at a hotel or riad overlooking the valley.
Our 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes continues with Tinghir to take in the sights of the Draa valley, which is filled with pam trees, and then on the way to one of Morocco’s most popular rock climbing spots, Todra Gorge, a 400-meter-deep canyon.
After a short walk through its grey and pink high canyons that can reach 400 m, we’ll head to Tinjdad and Touroug for lunch, then to Erfoud, which will feel like the beginning of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet, and finally to Merzouga and the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes.
From here, you’ll take a camel ride for about an hour and a half to your Nomadic Berber tents. During the trip, you’ll stop in the center of the dunes to watch the sunset, try sandboarding if that’s your thing, take photos, and enjoy the view.
After the sun sets, you will proceed to the camp, where you will be greeted with a drink of mint tea, dinner, a bonfire, a music party, and an overnight stay at Berber Camp Merzouga.
After breakfast at the camp, we’ll begin our Merzouga 4×4 adventure to explore the various and hideous locations surrounding the Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll visit the Hassi Labied oasis to witness its irrigation canal and land agriculture.
We’ll go south to the seasonal Dayt Sriji lake (if there’s water in it), then to Khamlia village if you want to listen to the Gnawa music of the dark-skinned people who were taken to Morocco as slaves over a hundred years ago.
After that, we’ll head to the M’ifis mines, which are a major draw for visitors to the Merzouga desert due to the abundance of minerals and fossils found there. Our 4×4 trip through the desert in Merzouga will take us to a nomadic Berber family still living in a tent in the heart of the Sahara, where we can share a cup of mint tea and hear stories about their way of life.
We’ll stop at various vantage points to take in the surroundings and snap some photos. We’ll have lunch at a restaurant in town, then head back to the village for supper and the night at a hotel with a view of the dunes.
For today, you’ll wake up early to see and enjoy the sunrise view of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga over the highest dunes, which is considered one of the great moments of the desert. After breakfast, you’ll have the option of returning either on camels or by 4×4 car, leaving the dunes behind to begin the journey to Fes. We will drive to Fes through Ziz Valley, stopping to admire the panoramic scenery of Ziz Valley.
After that, we continue our drive till we stop for lunch in Midelt or Zaida before continuing on to Azrou or Michlifen to visit the Barbary macaque and the cedar forest. Following that, we will go to Fes via Ifrane, a village in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains. It is famous for its alpine-style architecture and proximity to ski slopes and forests. A stone lion statue near the beautiful Parc la Prairie is a well-known sight. Stay at a hotel or riad in Fes for the night.
